Joseph Garofolo has been a principal of ERISA Consulting Group since 2003. He specializes in conducting fiduciary liability audits and compliance reviews involving employee benefit plans, including employee stock ownership plans. He provides consulting advice relating to fiduciary, prohibited transaction, and benefit denial litigation. He also provides advice relating to ERISA and Internal Revenue Code rules, regulations, statutory exemptions, class and individual exemptions, and advisory opinions.

Before joining ERISA Consulting Group, Mr. Garofolo was an attorney in the San Francisco office of the law firm of White & Case LLP. Mr. Garofolo practiced law in the following areas: i) ERISA fiduciary litigation, including involvement in settlement discussions, drafting of legal briefs, and analyzing statute of limitations issues; ii) ERISA and Internal Revenue Code compliance; and iii) equity compensation, executive compensation, and employee benefit issues arising in acquisitions and mergers, loans, reorganizations, and other business transactions.

Mr. Garofolo received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School and his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Western Pension & Benefits Conference, and the Bar Association of San Francisco. Mr. Garofolo is a licensed real estate broker in the State of California.
